Lyme Disease and Cryotherapy
You may have recently read that Justin Bieber has revealed that he’s been struggling with Lyme disease for a few years now. Caused by tick bites, Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that causes extreme fatigue, aches, pains and rashes. While not officially considered an autoimmune disorder, it shares many of the same symptoms as most autoimmune diseases including inflammation.
In late 2018 Connect Immune Research, a collaboration between JDRF (a Type 1 diabetes charity), MS Society and Versus Arthritis with support from the British Society for Immunology, estimated that about four million people in the UK suffered with some sort of autoimmune condition.
Under normal circumstances the immune system is on our side, protecting us from microorganisms — viruses, bacteria, and parasites which may make us ill. For those with an autoimmune disease this protective system turns on them, attacking their own cells and tissues misinterpreting them as foreign invaders.
Unfortunately cases of autoimmune diseases appear to be increasing. It is thought that environmental factors - pesticides, chemicals and a “Western diet” may be causing this rise. The typical diet in the West is high fat, high sugar with many processed foods often leading to inflammation — which in turn could set off an immune response.
While all (and there are over 80) autoimmune diseases are different, with varied triggers and attacking different organs, the early symptoms of many autoimmune disorders are similar including:
fatigue
aching
rashes
swelling and redness
low-grade fever
trouble concentrating
numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
hair loss
At LondonCryo we’ve been seeing an increase in clients suffering from immune disorders as many find that cryotherapy offers them relief from their symptoms.
Yolanda Foster of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and mother to models, Gigi and Bella Hadid, has been very open of her struggles with Lyme disease and her use of cryotherapy to manage the discomfort posting a photo of herself in a robe preparing to do a session, “3 Minutes of Bliss…….. #Cryotherapy -250•F #AntiInflammatoryTreatment #ChronicLymeDiseaseAwareness.”
Studies (and more importantly our clients) show and tell me how much whole body cryotherapy (WBC) improves the quality of their lives, especially if they are living with an autoimmune or inflammation-related disorder. Come on by and see how WBC can work for you.
